Information reaching this publication indicates that Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Malawi Police Service (MPS) officers have been deployed to Nsanje Central Constituency following reports of political violence.
It is alleged that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters are accused of pelting stones at the home of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentary aspirant Khandikhale Mandevana.
Nsanje Police Officer-in-Charge, Senior Superintendent Horace Chabuka, confirmed the incident, saying that tensions in the area have been rising and that, on the night before the election, a violent clash occurred between alleged DPP supporters and followers of independent candidate Bilah Karim.
As a result, an ambulance was vandalized and a police officer was injured while trying to control the situation.
