Information reaching our news desk indicates that unconfirmed election results from the Mtandire-Mtsiliza Constituency in Lilongwe City show a razor-thin victory for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Alfred Gangata, who also serves as the party’s deputy leader for the central region.

Gangata reportedly secured 12,289 votes, narrowly defeating Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate George Zulu, who garnered 12,284 votes. The five-vote margin makes this one of the tightest parliamentary races in this election cycle.

If confirmed by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), this result would mark a significant gain for the DPP in what has traditionally been an MCP stronghold.

In the same constituency, unconfirmed presidential results also show the DPP, under the leadership of former President Peter Mutharika, leading with 15,381 votes, compared to 9,528 votes for incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera of the MCP.
