Police in Lilongwe have arrested eight individuals on Friday on allegations of manipulating data related to the 2025 General Elections.
According to National Police Headquarters spokesperson Peter Kalaya, the suspects were apprehended at the Nkhoma Constituency Tally Centre in Lilongwe, where they were working as Data Entry Clerks during this year’s elections.
Kalaya said the arrests followed an investigation launched by the Malawi Police Service (MPS) into an attempted suicide case involving Mr. Clement Chikankha, a Constituency Returning Officer for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Lilongwe’s Nkhoma Constituency.
“The Service is also following up on a number of similar cases reported in Mangochi, Chikwawa, Blantyre, Machinga, and Rumphi districts,” Kalaya said.
He added that the MPS is working around the clock to conclude the investigations and urged Malawians to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
