The People’s Development Party (PDP) has officially conceded defeat in the recent tripartite elections. This is according to a letter released by PDP leader Kondwani Nankhumwa, who acknowledged the party’s loss in the presidential race.
Despite the setback, Nankhumwa stated that the PDP remains committed to participating in Malawi’s democratic process and will contest in the 2030 general elections.
Similarly, the People’s Party (PP) has also admitted defeat. In a letter, PP Secretary-General Ben Chakhame said the party had accepted the outcome after reviewing unofficial results that indicated it would not win the election.
Chakhame urged winning candidates to celebrate peacefully and encouraged those who lost to accept the results with dignity.
Both parties have pledged to continue engaging constructively in Malawi’s political landscape despite the electoral outcome.
