United Transformation Movement (UTM) presidential running mate and parliamentary candidate for Rumphi Central, Engineer Mathews Mtumbuka, has been conducting a series of “Thank You” whistle-stop rallies across the constituency.

Despite not securing a parliamentary seat in the September 16 elections, Mtumbuka visited 10 locations to personally thank his supporters.

Speaking to Nation Online on Wednesday, he said the rallies aim to uplift and encourage those who voted for him. “I am conducting the whistle stops to encourage those that voted for me so that they should not feel that they wasted their vote,” he said.

Unofficial results show Mtumbuka received 3,450 votes, trailing behind Aford President Enock Chihana, who leads with 6,822 votes.

Mtumbuka acknowledged the outcome but remained optimistic, telling supporters, “Everything happens with a purpose and God’s time is the best.”

He also said his one year in active politics has taught him valuable lessons and reaffirmed his commitment to continue development work in the area.

“I am prepared with resolve and without shame to suffer loss of elections, embarrassment and ridicule as a long-term investment for me to civic educate my community until they realize the right way of voting is to go for development-conscious leaders,” Mtumbuka said.

Today, Malawi Electoral Commission is set to release final results and the winner of this year’s presidential elections.
