President Chakwera to Address the Nation at 12PM

President Lazarus Chakwera is scheduled to address the nation this afternoon at 12 PM.
According to a statement signed by Presidential Press Secretary Anthony Rodgers Kasunda, the address will be broadcast live on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and other media outlets.
While the statement did not disclose the agenda of the address, speculation is rife that President Chakwera, who was seeking the presidential ticket for the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), may use the opportunity to concede defeat in the presidential election. This follows a significant lead by former president and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader, Peter Mutharika, based on unofficial results.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is expected to announce the official results and declare the winner of the September 16 presidential election at 2 PM today.
