Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 30-year-old man, Dyson Sitolo, on suspicion of stealing K15.2 million from an Indian national.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu confirmed the development, saying Sitolo, together with an accomplice who is still at large, robbed the victim yesterday around 4 p.m.

“The victim, who works as a manager at Deira Investment, was carrying the money in a laptop bag while riding a motorcycle. The suspects blocked him and threatened him with metal objects before snatching the bag,” explained Chigalu.

Following a report made to police, investigators launched a swift operation that led to Sitolo’s arrest as he attempted to board a bus at Kanengo.

So far, police have recovered K9.9 million of the stolen cash. Sitolo, also known as Rasta, told police that he shared K5 million with his accomplice, who is still on the run.

Sitolo will appear in court soon to answer charges of robbery.
