Police in Mulanje are searching for unknown individuals suspected of killing a pregnant woman, Linly Matiki, aged 22, of Bokosi Village, Traditional Authority Mabuka, in the district.
According to Mulanje Police spokesperson Innocent Moses, the incident is believed to have occurred during the night of September 27 to 28, 2025.
“On September 7, Matiki returned to her home village from Mozambique, where she had been living with her husband. She was heavily pregnant at the time and had come back to be closer to Thembe Hospital in preparation for childbirth,” Moses said.
He added that the woman’s grandfather became concerned after hearing Matiki’s children crying inside the house. When he entered, he found his granddaughter lying in a pool of blood and immediately reported the matter to Misanjo Police Unit.
Upon arrival, police found Matiki’s wallet containing approximately K47,000 still at the scene, along with a large blood-stained stone discovered outside the house, which investigators believe may have been the weapon used in the murder.
Police have launched a full investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
