Machinga District Hospital has reported a suspected case of Monkey pox (Mpox) the second in the district this year.

Hospital spokesperson Wongani Nyirenda confirmed in a statement that the patient is a 17-year-old male from Kwilasha Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Sitola. He is currently in isolation.

Nyirenda said samples have been collected and sent to Lilongwe for laboratory testing to confirm whether it is Mpox.

He has since urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report anyone showing symptoms such as sore throat, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.

Earlier this year, the district recorded its first suspected Mpox case, which later tested negative.
