Information reaching this publication indicates police in Kasungu used tear gas to disperse a group of protesters who were angered by the outcome of a parliamentary election in the southern part of the district.

The election was won by Simplex Chithyola Banda of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

According to police, the protesters were turned away because they had not followed the proper procedure for filing complaints with the District Commissioner’s office.

However, one of the individuals present, Aliyele Joseph, claimed they were not protesting but had gone to hear the outcome of complaints they had previously submitted.
