Police in Thyolo have arrested Christopher Sale, aged 28, on suspicion of setting fire to one of the offices at Malamulo College of Health Sciences on the night of Thursday last week.

According to Thyolo Police spokesperson Rebecca Kashoti, a security guard at the college saw the suspect entering one of the offices while carrying a bottle in his hand. Sale allegedly broke a window before throwing a petrol bomb into the office.

“Although the fire was quickly extinguished by students and security guards who were nearby, reports indicate that chairs, books, and other property worth about K2 million were destroyed,” said Kashoti.

Sale comes from Matengule Village, Traditional Authority Mulumbe, in Zomba District, and will appear in court soon to answer arson-related charges.

Meanwhile, Face of Malawi has noted that there was a mistake in the earlier publication which indicated that Christopher Finye was responsible for the crime. It has since been clarified that Christopher Sale burned Finye’s office, not the other way around.
