Police nab 2 for possession of cannabis sativa in Mzuzu

Police at Ekwendeni in Mzimba North on Monday nabbed two men over possession of cannabis sativa weighing 135 kilograms concealed in black plastic sheets and wrapped in four sacks.

This occurred at around 11:30 hours at Endongoleni along the Mzuzu-Karonga M1 road.

The two have been identified as Medrick Chawinga 30 and Andrew Kayange 28.

Prior to the arrest, police detectives at Ekwendeni Police Post received a tip that some three unknown people were carrying suspected cannabis from the direction of Ekwaiweni earth road heading Mzuzu on a Motorcycle.

The detectives acting on this information, followed up on the suspects.

They approached the three at Ekwendeni Trading Center and upon noticing that the detectives were after them, they sped of the place.

The law enforcers chased after the three suspects until they caught up with them at Endongoleni where one suspect managed to escape.

They seized the drug and the motorcycle while taking into custody the two drug traffickers.

The two will be taken before court to answer charges of possession of cannabis sativa without license which contravenes section 19(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act as read with regulation 4(a) of the same act after analysis of the drug at Lunyangwa Research Station.

Chawinga hails from Isaac Mtambo Village while Kayange comes from Nakafokera Village both under Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa District.
