71-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Wife in Lilongwe

Police in Kawale have arrested a 71-year-old man, Keleton Muyaba, for allegedly murdering his wife, Florence Hunga, aged 59.
According to Kawale Police spokesperson Mabvuto Phiri, the incident followed a domestic dispute between the couple. He said the two had a misunderstanding on the evening of October 18, which appeared to have been resolved after several hours of discussion. However, the argument flared up again the following morning.
“While they were in their bedroom, the argument escalated, drawing the attention of their son who lives with them. He forcefully entered the room to intervene,” Phiri said.
Upon entering, the son reportedly found his father holding a panga knife, while his mother lay in a pool of blood on the floor.
The matter was immediately reported to Area 23 Police Unit, and the victim was rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Area 23 detectives launched a swift manhunt and arrested Muyaba in Chiuzira.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer murder charge.
