Police in Lilongwe have arrested 35-year-old McDonald Masache from Layiti Village, Traditional Authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo District for allegedly operating fake Facebook pages and a WhatsApp group through which he defrauded unsuspecting individuals of millions of Kwacha.

According to police, Masache posed as a property manager, tricking victims into making payments for non-existent rental houses and plots.

He was apprehended in Blantyre and is currently being held at Blantyre Police Station, pending transfer to Lilongwe, where the case originated.

Meanwhile, police have appealed to members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to Gateway Mall Police Unit in Lilongwe or any nearest police station.

Police have since warned the public to exercise caution when engaging in online business transactions and to verify pages and contacts before making any payments.
