A 17-year-old boy, Francis Msiska, has died after being beaten and set on fire by an angry mob in Mwanganda Village, Karonga District.

According to Karonga Police spokesperson Margaret Msiska, the incident occurred on the morning of October 20, 2025, when the boy, along with two friends, allegedly went to steal chickens in the village. While the two accomplices managed to escape, Francis was caught and subjected to mob justice.

It is reported that the boy, who was an orphan, had shown signs of such behavior from an early age. “Lusubilo Orphan Care raised him from three months to 10 years, but eventually left him in the care of relatives after noticing this behavior,” Msiska said.

The deceased hailed from Kayaghaya Village, in Traditional Authority Mwilang’ombe, Karonga District.

Police have since condemned the act and issued a warning against mob justice, urging communities to follow legal procedures and promote lawful conduct to prevent such tragic incidents.
