Police in Mzuzu have arrested a woman and her two children for allegedly murdering her husband, who worked as a security guard and also operated as a motorcycle taxi rider.
Mzuzu Police Deputy Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Cecelia Mfune, said that in addition to the three family members, police have also arrested another suspect in connection with the same case.
According to Mfune, the deceased, identified as Chirwa, was last seen on September 10 this year after being hired by an unknown person for a ride but never returned home.
Investigations revealed that the victim and his wife, with whom he had eight children, had been having marital disputes after he allegedly began selling family property, including land.
Following the disagreements, the wife also sold part of the family land, and the matter was taken to court. The court later ordered the couple to divorce, which allegedly prompted the suspects to plot Chirwa’s murder. The wife reportedly promised K10 million to one of the suspects to carry out the killing.
Police later discovered the decomposed body of the late Chirwa in Kaning’ina Forest.
