Some members of the Chiwanja Cha Ayao cultural grouping have blasted the newly elected executive committee led by Charles Twaibu over the cancellation of this year’s annual festival due to funding hiccups.

One of the members who opted for anonymity accused the new executive of sleeping on the job and lacking direction.

“ Ku Chiwanja cha Ayao kwalowa sankho lero ndi izo asogoleri akulephela kufikila ma company kuti athandize bungweli. Mu Yao wa Khristu saloledwa kutenga mpando ku bungweli zomwe ndi zomvesa Chisoni,” said the official.

The official went further to claim that it’s the cultural grouping is currently dormant.

When contacted for comment Chiwanja cha Ayao National Organizing Secretary Violet Msito has attributed the cancellation of this year’s festival lack of time to prepare.

“As you are aware this committee was ushered into office in May this year and there was no enough time to prepare for the event. The other thing was the political situation in the country. There was much tension in the country and it was not easy for us to knock on the doors of various companies in the country.

“But next year we will hold the festival. The committee has already come up with the Budget and the place where we will hold,” said Msito.

Msito said the grouping will soon hold a fundraising dinner and dance in redness for the next year’s Festival.

A total of MK150 million has been budgeted for next year’s festival.

Chiwanja Cha Ayao Cultural Festival was last held in October 2023.
