The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has reportedly instructed American troops to prepare for deployment to Nigeria to help fight Islamist militant groups accused of attacking and killing Christians in the country.

According to a report by the BBC, Trump criticized the Nigerian government for allegedly failing to protect Christians, though there is no verified evidence that Christians are being targeted more than Muslims.

Trump warned that if the Nigerian authorities continue to “do nothing” about the violence, the U.S. may suspend aid to the country.

However, Daniel Bwala, an adviser to the Nigerian president, told the BBC that any military cooperation should be conducted in coordination and mutual agreement between the two nations.

He emphasized that Nigeria is open to receiving support from the U.S. in its fight against extremist groups, but clarified that the militants attack people of all faiths, not just Christians.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed that Nigeria remains a nation of religious tolerance, noting that the security challenges affect citizens across all regions and faiths in the country.
