Information reaching this publication indicates that students at Endindeni Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba went on a rampage last night, damaging school property following disagreements over the type of food they were being served.
According to reports, the chaos erupted after students demanded that the school management stop serving them soya and vegetables, insisting that the meals be replaced with fish and meat to reflect the recent increase in boarding fees.
Police were called to the scene to restore order and fired teargas to disperse the rioting students. About 20 students have since been arrested, while several others are still at large.
The students are reported to have vandalized computers, window panes, stationery, and other property in the administration block during the unrest.
