President Peter Mutharika’s close ally, Leonard Chimbanga has criticized the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) for its recent outburst over fuel, Water and electricity challenges rocking the country.
Writing on his official Facebook page Chimbanga said he is surprised that HRDC is pressuring Mutharika to swiftly act on fuel, water and electricity crisis barely two months in office.
According to Chimbanga, the grouping went to bed during the reign of former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who failed Malawians in all angles.
“HRDC is back after a five year nap and Suddenly, they’ve found their voices to blame a government barely two months old for crises that flourished under their beloved Chakwera. Where were they when Thabo canceled the passports printing contract, when the government was buying fertilizer from butcheries, or during the bridgin Foundation scandal? They were silent comfortably so while corruption reigned and the country sank into misery.
“Let’s not pretend they didn’t see the rot. They watched as the SOSISA government looted, lied, and failed, yet never raised a finger. Now they dare to lecture the nation about accountability? Spare us the hypocrisy. HRDC lost its moral compass long ago and became nothing more than a militia group and an extension of the MCP a group that thrives on chaos and pretends it’s activism,” wrote Chimbanga.
He added: “If they truly cared about the people, they would’ve spoken up when Malawi was bleeding, not now when APM is trying to clean up the mess. HRDC should stay exactly where it’s been silent because the country has no time for selective activism dressed as human rights.”
Effort to talk to HRDC Chairperson Michael Kaiyatsa proved futile.
