The Malawi Police Service has launched an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct by one of its officers in connection with a sexual abuse case in Area 25, Lilongwe.
The case involves a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly abused by her 39 year-old stepfather, Binisoni Malino.
According to Child Advocacy Centre, Malino had been allegedly raping the stepdaughter repeatedly.
Meanwhile the victim’s mother reported the matter, but claims that an officer at Nsungwi Police Station demanded money to issue a warrant of arrest.
Medical report by Kamuzu Central Hospital has recommended that the victim undergo surgery to remove her uterus due to the severity of the abuse
Alfred Chimthere, Deputy Spokesperson for National Police confirmed that they are aware of the allegations and have dispatched a team to investigate the matter.
According to Chimthere, appropriate action would be taken against any officer found to have acted unprofessionally.
He has further assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and will ensure that the perpetrator is arrested and brought to justice.
