Heavy rains have left more than 100 households destitute at Pengapenga in the area of Senior Chief Makwangwala in Ntcheu District, after their houses were damaged.

Group Village Head Kalumba said the downpour, which began on Monday, blew off roofs, killed livestock, and left several people with minor injuries.

The rains also damaged infrastructure at Mpotola Primary School, blowing off roofs of two classroom blocks, a staff room, and a teacher’s house, disrupting learning at the institution.

Meanwhile, Disaster Risk Management Officer for Ntcheu District, Walusungu Mwafulirwa, said the office needs more time before outlining interventions for the affected families.
