Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamvekha has revealed that the K67 billion budget allocation for the State House was fully spent within just six months, despite being intended for the entire 2025–2026 fiscal year.

“State House has used K67 billion in just half a year, while these funds were meant to last the entire year,” Mwanamvekha said.

He further disclosed that the Office of the President and Cabinet has already consumed 100 percent of its allocated funds. “Even the President’s office has already exhausted the money that was set aside,” he added.

The Minister also revealed that additional borrowing was done to cover the expenditures, noting that total spending now exceeds K50 billion above the original allocation of K150 billion.

According to Mwanamvekha, these figures reflect poor financial management and a lack of proper utilization of government resources during the previous administration under President Lazarus Chakwera.
