“Jomo Is Here to Deliver” – Blantyre Mayor Demands K8 Billion in Unpaid Rates from Businesses

The newly elected Mayor of Blantyre City, Isaac Jomo Osman, has issued a stern warning to business operators over more than K8 billion in unpaid rates, giving them 21 days to settle their dues or face legal action.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Osman emphasised that the council is committed to restoring order and vibrancy in Malawi’s commercial capital. “We are serious about city development and accountability. Business operators must pay their dues to ensure we can improve services for all residents,” he said.
The mayor outlined a series of initiatives to transform Blantyre, including:, Enhancing public safety, following a recent high-profile murder, Addressing the issue of street children and social challenges, Clearing illegal vendors and providing dedicated motorcycle parking, Upgrading city roads and Demolishing condemned buildings to improve city aesthetics and safety
Osman assured residents and investors that his administration is focused on revitalising Blantyre, making it a safer, well-managed, and attractive city for business and living.
