South Africa says it will continue as a member of the G20, after US President Donald Trump signalled he would not invite the country to next year’s G20 summit in Miami, Florida.
The dispute emerged following remarks by Trump, who accused South Africa of tolerating land seizures affecting white farmers and alleged violence, describing the stance as his reason for the snub.
But speaking on Sunday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed the suggestion that the US could influence the country’s membership in the bloc, insisting that South Africa helped build G20 from its early years and has every right to remain at the table.
“We were part of the founding wave that shaped G20 nothing stops us from participating. We are not leaving the G20,” Ramaphosa said.
According to eNCAnews, the South African leader further reassured citizens that the government will continue engaging in all G20 activities despite diplomatic friction.
South Africa last hosted the G20 summit in November 2025, before handing the presidency to the United States, which is scheduled to host again in 2026.
