Luntha Television has apologized to the public and to the family of Esau Kanyenda for publishing a false report claiming he had died.
The station clarified that the information was incorrect and that Kanyenda, a former Mighty Wanderers and Malawi national football team player, is alive.
Kanyenda had posted yesterday that he was diagnosed with cancer, a message that drew sympathy and concern from many Malawians.
In its apology, Luntha Television expressed deep regret for the distress and confusion caused, especially to the Kanyenda family.
The broadcaster acknowledged the importance of thoroughly verifying sensitive information before publication.
It announced that an internal review has been launched to understand how the error occurred.
Luntha Television has since removed the misleading post from all its platforms and pledged to strengthen its verification processes to uphold accuracy and ethical journalism.
