The suspect, identified as Madalitso Samson of Sojali Village under Traditional Authority Nganya in Ntcheu, was discovered badly burnt at Chichiri in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to Escom, Samson was found lying helplessly with severe burns, believed to have been caused by tampering with live electricity infrastructure. The company says he was quickly rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Before being taken to the hospital, Samson reportedly told onlookers that he did not know what had happened to him. He only recalled spending the previous night with friends friends he said he could not remember.

The man was unable to speak properly due to the intense pain from his injuries. Police had not yet commented on the matter by the time of publishing this.

Escom has since issued a warning to the public, stressing that its equipment is extremely dangerous and that vandalism poses a life-threatening risk.
