Firms engage communities on healthy awareness campaign

In a quest to reduce suicide releted cases ,One of the country’s leading healthy insurance company, Medical Aid Society of Malawi ( MASM ) has challenged Men in the country to avoid making decisions out of desperation.

Speaking during the joint men health awareness campaign organized by MASM and Malawi Telecom Network ( psl) on Saturday December 6,2025, held at College of Medicine Sports Complex, a lecturer at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Dr John Mponda urged men to make informed decisions in different situations and embrace resistance when challenges arise.

“The similar problems which men are encountering in their work is deadline for the workload and pressure on family issues.We have seen that these issues are perpetrating suicide deats in the country as most men resort to commiting suicide since they fail to cope with pressure,” he said.

He added that men are also noted being rulactant to seeking help and counselling from relevant authorities for challenges such as marital disputes,drud abuse and debts.

Mponda who is also a MASM Consultant called on men to properly manage their time and healthy and seek support and counselling from trusted sources to avoid anxiety which always leads men to commiting suicide.

MASM representative Osei Dominic Mponda stated that the main aim of their partenership with TNM apart from promotion of healthy awareness campaign was to promote the company’s brand, products and services on offer to the general public.

“As MASM,our main focus is to sensetize people on mentle health issues and that they should join MASM for medical cover.Additionally,we took also advantage to promote our brand , products and services we provide to the general public,”explained Mponda.

Dalitso Nkunika,TNM representative in a separate interview hailed all organisations who collaborated with them to advocate mental health awareness campaign.

After the presentations by representatives from various companies,there were also a football tournament between MASM and TNM which TNM emerged the champions.

Official statistics from Malawi Police Services and Ministry of Healthy show that 153 suicide cases have been reported from January to march this year such that 125 are men while 28 are women.
