Youth rights and governance advocate Charles Kajoloweka has declined his appointment to the board of the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA), citing principles, ethics and the need to safeguard institutional independence.
In a letter dated December 15, 2025, addressed to Chief Secretary Justin Saidi, Kajoloweka said accepting the appointment could compromise, or be perceived to compromise, the independence of Youth and Society (YAS), where he serves as Executive Director, and the integrity of its advocacy work.
He stated that declining the role was in the best interests of accountable governance, public trust and institutional clarity.
This is not the first time Kajoloweka has turned down a board appointment, having also declined a position on the National Youth Council board in September 2020.
Kajoloweka is widely known for his work in youth rights and governance advocacy through Youth and Society.
