Man Arrested in Chitipa Over Illegal Cannabis Cultivation

Police in Chitipa have arrested a 45-year-old man, David Kayinga, for allegedly possessing cannabis sativa without a permit.
Chitipa Police Public Relations Officer Gladwell Simwaka said the suspect was arrested during the night of December 16, 2025, at his home in Mwakalama Village, following a tip-off that he was selling cannabis.
Simwaka explained that police raided Kayinga’s house, where they seized 20 kilograms of cannabis sativa and uprooted 21 illicit cannabis plants from his garden, which he had been cultivating without a licence.
Kayinga, who comes from Mwakalama Village in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambya, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of illegal possession and cultivation of cannabis.
