Police in Mzuzu have arrested two men suspected of involvement in a series of robberies in Chibanja, Big Five and Old Town areas of the city.

The arrests were made on Thursday following a tip-off from members of the public.

Mzuzu Police Station spokesperson Augustus Munthali identified the suspects as Joseph Yusuf Anusa Phiri, aged 30, and Chrispin Kamanga, aged 23.

Munthali said the duo is linked to more than four robbery cases in which they allegedly used panga knives to attack victims.

The suspects reportedly stole mobile phones, bags and cash during the robberies.

Anusa Phiri, also known as Achimkono or Yugo, is further accused of escaping from lawful custody.
