Malawian award-winning music star Eli Njuchi, born Chifuniro Magalasi, has deactivated his social media accounts as he mourns the loss of five close team members who died in a tragic road accident.

The accident occurred on 26 December 2025 along the M1 road between Senzani and Chitale in Ntcheu District. The deceased three members of the Hive Band and two management staff were travelling to Lilongwe ahead of Eli Njuchi’s scheduled music concert.

Following the crash, the artist cancelled the concert and changed profile pictures of his social media platforms to black in a public show of mourning. However, it has now been noted that Eli Njuchi has completely deactivated his accounts, a move believed to be aimed at allowing him to grieve away from public pressure and online noise.

While many fans and fellow artists have expressed sympathy and support, some social media users have drawn criticism for posting insensitive comments and mocking the musician during his time of grief. Observers have condemned the behaviour, calling for compassion and respect for the young star as he navigates one of the most painful moments of his career.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Malawi’s music industry, with calls growing for kindness and unity as Eli Njuchi and the bereaved families continue to mourn.
