AFCON 2025 Group Stage Ends in High Drama as Knockout Line-Up Takes Shape

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations group stage concluded in dramatic fashion last night, with several heavyweight nations securing places in the Round of 16 as others bowed out of the tournament.
In Group B, seven-time champions Egypt finished top after a goalless draw with Angola, ending the group with seven points. South Africa clinched second place following an entertaining 3–2 victory over Zimbabwe, booking their ticket to the knockout stage. Angola and Zimbabwe were eliminated.
Meanwhile, Group A saw Morocco assert their dominance with a convincing 3–0 win over Zambia, sealing top spot with seven points. Mali joined them in the Round of 16 after playing out a 0–0 draw against Comoros, which was enough to secure qualification.
With the group stage now complete, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, South Africa, Morocco and Mali are among the teams through to the knockout phase, as attention shifts to the decisive Round of 16 where the battle for continental glory intensifies.
