Mzimba Police have closed an impersonation case involving Mmbelwa District Council intern Jane Liwonde following instructions from Minister of State Alfred Gangata.
Police spokesperson Maria Banda confirmed that Liwonde and her alleged accomplice have been released from custody and are now at home.
Liwonde had been accused of impersonating the Minister of State in a bid to extend her internship, which was due to end on December 30, 2025.
Police said she allegedly used a friend to pose as the minister when communicating with Mmbelwa District Commissioner Emmanuel Bulukutu and Principal Gender Officer Shadreck Mingo.
The two suspects were arrested after investigations established that Minister Gangata was not involved in the matter.
According to police, Liwonde later apologised to the minister for impersonating him and to the affected officials for deceiving them.
The apology was accepted, and the matter was resolved as directed by the minister.
