The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has cancelled a tender for the provision of security services that was to be awarded to Masters Security Services, Iringa Security Services and Kamu Guard Services.

The development has been confirmed by senior officials at the authority.

In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of Masters Security Services, MRA Commissioner General Felix Tambulasi formally communicated the cancellation of the tender, without stating the reasons behind the decision.

Earlier this week, MRA issued a notice of intention to award security contracts to the three companies.

The decision attracted widespread public criticism after it emerged that some of the firms are linked to senior government officials in the current administration.

The backlash is believed to have influenced the authority’s decision to reverse the planned awards.

MRA has yet to issue an official public statement explaining the cancellation.
