Malawi Mourns as Former First Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo Passes Away

According to family sources and MCP official Hon. Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Kazombo died after a battle with asthma. His passing marks the end of a distinguished career that spanned the corporate world, academia, and high-level politics.
Known for his discipline and analytical mind, Hon. Kazombo was a highly educated professional. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Malawi (Chancellor College), where he studied from 1999 to 2004. He furthered his expertise at the Malawi College of Accountancy in Blantyre, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (ACCA) in 2009.
Before entering the political arena, he established a formidable reputation in the private sector:

Press Corporation Limited: Served as an Internal Auditor from 2008 until 2014, where he was respected for his commitment to corporate governance and accountability.
Hon. Kazombo entered frontline politics in 2014 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kasungu East. His mastery of parliamentary procedure and his reputation for integrity led to his election as the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in 2019. In this role, he was widely regarded as a firm but fair presiding officer who prioritized national interest over partisan politics.
In recent years, after stepping away from active parliamentary duties, Hon. Kazombo turned his focus toward the agricultural sector. He became a successful commercial farmer, engaging in crop production, fish farming, and livestock rearing. His transition to farming was seen by many as a testament to his belief in personal productivity and national food security.
Honourable Madalitso Kazombo is survived by his family and leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service and professional excellence. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and the state in due course.
