The country’s Inspector General of Police, Richard Luhanga, has promoted two police officers, Fred Nkhata and his colleague, for foiling a robbery at Mbowe in Lilongwe.
The two officers were dressed as civilians, with one pretending to withdraw money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) when the robbers struck.
During the operation, another police officer shot one of the robbers and he was apprehended at the spot.
The robbers are suspected to have been targeting members of the public, particularly in the evenings, as they withdrew money from ATMs, including the one at Mbowe.
