19-Year-Old Man Dies By Suicide In Monkey Bay

A 19-year-old man, identified as Yakobe Patrick, has died by suicide in Monkey Bay, Mangochi District, after being confronted over an alleged theft.
Monkey Bay Police Station spokesperson, Alice Sichali, said the incident occurred on January 12, when Patrick allegedly broke into a house belonging to a local family and stole assorted clothes. The matter was subsequently reported to his parents.
Sichali explained that upon learning that the issue had been reported, Patrick left his home for an unknown destination at around 3:30 PM.
She said that at approximately 4:00 PM, Patrick was discovered hanging from the roof of a house using a twine rope.
Police officers and medical personnel were called to the scene, and reports later confirmed that death was due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Patrick hailed from Mwalala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi District.
