The Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) is moving to save its relationship with Prophet Shepherd Bushiri following the sudden termination of their partnership by Goshen City.
In a formal letter issued by the office of the General Secretary, FAMA has requested an urgent meeting with the Goshen City leader. The association aims to clarify the “misunderstandings” and issues that led to the collapse of the agreement, which was officially called off by Goshen City on January 7, 2026.
The partnership, which originally involved a significant financial pledge (reportedly K100 million) to support the Malawian film industry and the Malawi Film Awards, was terminated after Goshen City conducted an “internal review.”
At the time of the breakup, Goshen City’s Director of Communications, Aubrey Kusakala, played down rumors of a fallout or financial misappropriation. He stated that the decision was a “strategic realignment” to allow both organizations to pursue their objectives independently, with Goshen City choosing to focus more on charity work this year.
Despite Goshen City’s public statement, FAMA officials have expressed a desire to sit down with Prophet Bushiri to ensure the bridge between the film industry and the billionaire businessman is not permanently burned.
Meanwhile, Netizens are suggesting that the objective of the meeting To discuss the specific reasons behind the termination and address any grievances that may have arisen during their collaboration.
While Goshen City insists the relationship remains “cordial,” the sudden nature of the withdrawal has left many in the creative industry concerned about the future of major film projects that relied on the partnership.
The film industry is now waiting to see if Prophet Bushiri will grant the meeting, which many hope will lead to a “re-alignment” rather than a final goodbye.
