UK: A footballer in Wales has been arrested and released by his club after a video surfaced showing him allegedly elbowing an opponent during a match.
The footage, recorded on Saturday, January 17, appears to show Trearddur Bay player Tom Taylor striking a Porthmadog defender in the face before a penalty was taken.
The video has gone viral, attracting more than 10 million views and sparking widespread calls for disciplinary and legal action.
North Wales Police confirmed they are investigating the incident and have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of assault.
Police have urged the public not to speculate while inquiries continue. Trearddur Bay FC initially suspended Taylor and later released him following an internal review.
The club stated that it does not condone violence and apologised to the affected player, officials, supporters, and the wider football community.
The Football Association of Wales also confirmed it is aware of the incident and is reviewing the matter under its disciplinary procedures.
