The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to Ezekiel Ching’oma and Gracian Lungu, who are facing charges of terrorist financing brought by the government.
The court heard that between December 9 and December 27, 2024, Ching’oma allegedly gave K3.9 million to Lungu to facilitate activities intended to disrupt protests that later led to the kidnapping of human rights activist Silvestre Namiwa.
The state requested the court to remand the two suspects for 14 days to allow further investigations. However, Resident Magistrate Breacious Kondowe ruled that the suspects have a constitutional right to bail and ordered their release.
As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered each suspect to post a personal bond of K3 million, provide two sureties bonded at K5 million each, surrender their travel documents, and report to Area 30 Police Station every two weeks.
