Police in Ntcheu District have arrested four men for allegedly stealing 423 bags of NPK fertiliser meant for beneficiaries.

Ntcheu Police spokesperson Jacob Khembo identified the suspects as Gregory Anderson (33), Rodrick Khama (32), Emmanuel Kwetino (33), and Alfred Gibson (21).

Khembo said there had been a spate of fraud at Mlangeni fertiliser shop, prompting Inkosi Njolomole to ask community members to investigate the matter.

He explained that yesterday morning, villagers spotted a truck carrying fertiliser and alerted Inkosi Njolomole, who rushed to the scene.

Anderson and Khama allegedly told the chief that the fertiliser was being transported to another location for beneficiaries.

However, when Inkosi Njolomole demanded further clarification, the two allegedly attempted to offer him K2 million to stop the matter.

Unimpressed by the move, Inkosi Njolomole reported the issue to the police, who arrested all four suspects. Police also recovered the 423 bags of fertiliser and seized K2 million, which will be produced in court as an exhibit.
