Minister of Information and Digitalization Dr Shadric Namalomba has hailed journalists under Southern Region Press Club (SRPC) for embarking in poultry farming in an effort to make the club economically independent.

Namalomba said this at Whwayo Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kapeni in Blantyre on Friday when he led the Club a tree planting exercise.

He then appealed to the members to learn more in poultry farming.

“Seek support from other organisations and entities, learn more on agricultural commercialisation,” he said.

On his part SRPC President, Ronald Amos appealed for the support from government for the project to come into reality.

“We want to have a cooperative within the club to help us improve our income base. Through you Minister we appeal for government support on this project,” he said.

Agricultural Commercialisation (AGCOM) has pumped in MK340 million in the project.

The tree planting exercise was supported by Wild Life and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM), Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Automotive Product Limited (APL).

WESM provided 2000 tree seedlings to SRPC to be planted at Whwayo Village where communities joined in the exercise.
