JUMA Mourns Death of Veteran Journalist Francis Tayanja Phiri

The Journalists Union of Malawi (JUMA) has expressed deep sadness over the death of veteran journalist Francis Tayanja Phiri.
JUMA Secretary General Nathan Majawa described the late Tayanja Phiri as a beacon of professional journalism whose contribution to the media fraternity was immense.
“He leaves the stage at a very critical moment when we are at an advanced stage of revitalising JUMA. He was a gourd of wisdom,” said Majawa.
Francis Tayanja Phiri, who coined the term “Cashgate” to describe the systematic and massive plunder of public funds at Capital Hill in 2013, died on Monday in Blantyre.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
