The MDF Lionesses Football Club has officially announced the departure of their prolific forward and Malawi National Women’s Team (The Scorchers) star, Sabina Thom. The striker has signed a two-year contract with Moroccan club Phoenix Academy Marrakech WFC.
Thom leaves the Lionesses following a remarkable spell defined by professionalism and passion. In a fitting farewell, her final appearance for the club against Topik Academy saw her find the back of the net and claim the Player of the Match award. Her contributions were pivotal in the team’s strong league finish this season.
The move to Morocco marks the latest chapter in Thom’s globetrotting career. In March 2025, she joined the Georgian club WFC Lanchkhuti as a free agent after a successful two-year stint with TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which ended in February 2025.
In an official statement, the MDF Lionesses praised her leadership: “Her fellow players salute her for the outstanding work and dedication she displayed both on and off the pitch. Once a Lioness, always a Lioness.”
The club and her teammates have wished her success as she begins her new journey in North Africa.
