Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Second Deputy Director of Public Relations, Isaac Mwepa, has resigned from his position and ceased to be a member of the party with immediate effect, citing personal reasons.
In a resignation letter dated January 27, 2026, addressed to the party’s Secretary General, Mwepa wrote: “I, Isaac Mwepa, hereby submit my immediate resignation as Second Deputy Director of Public Relations and as a member of MCP, effective immediately.”
He added: “This decision is personal, allowing me to focus on my business and other priorities. I appreciate the support I have received during my tenure and wish the party continued success.”
In an interview, Mwepa said his decision to leave the party had nothing to do with his loss in the September 16, 2025 General Election, where he contested for the Chitipa North Constituency seat on an MCP ticket.
Mwepa joined the MCP in 2015 and previously contested the same constituency seat in earlier elections.
Reacting to the development, MCP Deputy Secretary General Gerald Kazembe described Mwepa as a valuable member of the party.
“Honourable Mwepa is a great man, a politician of impeccable character. I will personally miss him. However, we regret that he has made the decision to quit,” said Kazembe.
