Woman Arrested for Dumping Newborn Baby in Toilet in Mzuzu

Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 27-year-old woman, Madalitso Dinesi, on suspicion of dumping her newborn baby in a toilet.
Mzuzu Police spokesperson Augustus Mkhwazi said Dinesi, who works as a domestic worker for a family in Chiputula Township, allegedly committed the act in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to Mkhwazi, the suspect concealed her pregnancy and gave birth at eight months. He said the baby’s cries alerted nearby residents, who informed the police. Officers later rescued the baby and rushed it to hospital, where it was pronounced dead.
Dinesi, who hails from Mkanda Traditional Authority in Mulanje District, is currently admitted at Mapale Hospital in Mzuzu and is expected to be charged with concealing pregnancy and murder once she recovers.
