A 45-year-old man, Henry Kaliza, has died in Neno District after allegedly consuming kachasu on an empty stomach. The incident occurred on Thursday at Kammwamba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Symon.

According to police, Kaliza, who lived alone, left his home on January 27, 2026, to drink alcohol within the village.

Investigations indicate that he continued drinking without eating, and on January 29 at around 17:00 hours, he was found dead in a maize field with a nip of kachasu beside him.

Police officers, accompanied by a medical officer from Mizemba Health Centre, visited the scene and confirmed the death.

A postmortem examination revealed that Kaliza died due to excessive alcohol consumption on an empty stomach.

Neno District Police spokesperson Rebecca Msoliza confirmed that the deceased hailed from Kammwamba Village in the district.
