Malawian music icon Onesimus, born Armstrong Kalua, has officially swept his girlfriend, Merisa James, off her feet in a cinematic proposal that has dominated digital conversations over the last 24 hours.

After six months of high-profile dating, the Controller hitmaker turned life into a movie, sharing a breathtaking video of the moment he asked Merisa to be his wife. A glowing Merisa said “Yes,” accepting the title of “Mai Kalua” much to the delight of thousands of fans who have long cheered for the couple’s matching energy.

The comment sections on the artist’s pages were flooded with wow wow followed by siren emojis and fire icons resembling a city lit up with excitement. However, the celebratory mood took a sharp turn when controversial “Life Coach” Mwiza weighed in with a post that dampened the spirits of many.

The harmony was shattered when Mwiza took to his page to announce he would not be congratulating the couple just yet. In a post that many have labeled “distasteful,” the influencer stated he would only offer his well-wishes once the couple announced a pregnancy or welcomed a baby.

The comment immediately ignited a firestorm, with netizens accusing the life coach of being “bitter” and “disrespectful” toward a moment of genuine joy.

Leading the charge against Mwiza was the “Queen of Vilekeke,” Felistus Nya Uyu, who slammed the life coach in a scathing post that has since gone viral.

“A very stupid and useless post… All this because of what? Numbers? Vilekeke!” Felistus wrote. “Mwiza, you look way too smart to be making such posts. And yet you call yourself a Life Coach? People are busy creating content that may hurt others and they don’t care at all, all in the name of numbers.”

Felistus wasn’t alone. Big names including Ron Cz, Tonderai Banda, and Ida Chicker Chabs joined the chorus of criticism, labeling the post as a desperate cry for attention at the expense of others’ happiness.

The backlash has proven costly for the Life Coach. Within hours of the post, digital trackers showed that Mwiza had lost over 4,000 followers, as disappointed fans “unfollowed” in protest of his remarks.

While Onesimus has remained focused on his new fiancée, the Malawian digital space remains divided between those celebrating the “Hollywood-style” love story and those debating the ethics of content creation in the age of “clout-chasing.”

For now, one thing is certain: Merisa James is officially ready to become the new “Mai Kalua.”
