Primary School Teacher Found Dead After Heavy Drinking on Empty Stomach

A teacher at Mpale Primary School in Mangochi District, Robert Chaopa, has died after allegedly drinking alcohol on empty stomach.

Mangochi Police spokesperson Amina Daudi said Chaopa, 37, went to drink alcohol in a village and became so intoxicated that he was unable to walk.

She said friends who were with him helped him back to his house and left him sleeping on a chair.

Daudi added that Chaopa did not come out of the house for several days, until people became concerned after a foul smell started coming from the house. When the house was opened, he was found dead on the chair where he had been sleeping.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Chaopa died from low blood sugar.
